Our Story
TENERE was founded in 2018 by a group of passionate travelers and local Algerian guides who saw the need for a more sustainable approach to desert tourism. The name "TENERE" comes from the Tuareg word for "desert" or "wilderness," reflecting our deep connection to the Saharan landscape.
What began as a small initiative to promote responsible travel in the Tassili N'Ajjer region has grown into a comprehensive platform connecting travelers with authentic experiences across the Algerian Sahara, while ensuring that tourism benefits local communities and preserves the fragile desert ecosystem.
Today, TENERE works with over 200 local guides, artisans, and community organizations throughout Algeria to create meaningful travel experiences that leave a positive impact on both travelers and the destinations they visit.
